DESIGN CHALLENGES
I met a client who was determined to install Viking appliances with the gold label. Nothing else mattered. The layout was challenged, difficult at best. Yet, I’m sure she has a room full of the finest appliances.
To make a space function, however, takes considerable thought and time.
LARGE KITCHENS
A large space isn’t always beneficial. You don’t want a dance hall, you need a kitchen that functions. Not only do large spaces cost more to fill, they can present design challenges.
There are standards that I use to utilize space, yet every job is different. Sometimes I use extra deep cabinets or counters to reduce the steps needed to work. Other times we might move walls or divide the space for increased efficiencies. Outwardly, it would seem that large spaces are easier to design... but I’m not convinced.
SMALL KITCHENS
A small kitchen space has its challenges, as well, and I frequently look for ways to expand. Sometimes there isn’t a reasonable option.
You work with what you have to make every inch count. I’m not sure why, but I have always liked this challenge.

The high tech European cabinets are fun and exciting, but for most people they were too bold and slick. The opposite-carved Santa Fe style-are too heavy.”
