1800 sf  - 8 Weeks

There is a first time for everything. We built this addition at our factory and craned it onto a home in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Our clients needed more spaces for their lives.  We were challenged to create an addition for them that would include master suite, an office, two additional bedrooms, and a large activity room.  Because of the irregular lot, the addition needed to be compact, without diminishing the already scarce backyard.  The front yard provided an opportunity for a 2 story, tri-level addition. The master suite, situated on top with a private deck, captures beautiful cityscapes and views in the bargain. The final design added 1750 sf of space.

The actual on-site construction of this project was only 8 weeks once the foundation was complete.  The entire second level was built off-site and craned into place. The master suite has a private deck with a custom railing.  The master bathroom has concrete counters with inlaid tile at the vanity and soaking tub area.  The shower is freeform and hand plastered with an acid wash.  A two-way gas fireplace is part of the wall between the bedroom and bathroom.  The bedroom and closet have spruce floors with rough nails at a 45* angle to the stairs. We were able to create a 3rd bathroom in the activity room within a unique space.  The entry became an adventure of discovery by changing planes and heights of the ceiling as the stair wound up to the main door.  A welcoming, front vestibule clearly guides the guest to the front.

A letter from our clients

Overcoming the Wildest Challenges

My wife and I had modest plans to add a second story to our home. A new master bedroom would free up an extra room for family or friends. RemodelInc drew up some phenomenal plans, offering innovative ideas. Utilizing their Custom DryFit concept: an 850 square foot addition was built off site and was ready to be craned in.

One week before the craning in, a next door neighbor showed up with a restrictive covenant in hand never found by our title company, which prohibited us from having a second story addition to our house until the year 2074!

We would be forced to re-design using the pre-built addition and met their approval. This required a zoning variance approval. With the opposition from yet another neighbor, the city refused our appeal, and we were left with a humungous $80,000 master suite, looking for a home.

Determined to give us something better than we could have imagined instead of another remodeling nightmare story, RemodelInc created a better plan utilizing a bi-level first story. Although the cost would be higher, it was also bigger.

the idea was met with approval from the neighbor with the crazy “2074” contract. Other neighbors, worried that the new design would infringe on existing neighborhood covenants, enthusiastically approved the new plans. RemodelInc took the process a step further, cleverly redesigning the finishing touches to fit neighborhood covenants. Now our finished project, almost a year after completion, receives almost daily acclaim from neighbors. This dream, which played out beyond our wildest expectations, could not have been realized without the integrity, resourcefulness, and care of our friends at RemodelInc!

Dreams might come at a high price, but dogged persistence pays it off.

Note: Remodelinc was I company I sold my interests in 2007.  Custom DryFit was the system that I created to cut costs and time on site.
